Puto Cheese - Easy and Delicious Filipino Breakfast/Snacks Recipe !

Puto cheese is a Filipino steamed bread that has melted cheese on top. This is really good with coffee or a hot chocolate drink. It's basically a good snack or breakfast.

Dry Ingredients:

+ 1 cup of all purpose flour

+ 1 tbsp. of baking powder

+ 1 tsp. of vanilla extract ( optional)


Wet Ingredients:

+ 3/4 cup of water

+ 1/2 cup of white sugar

+ 1/4 cup of evaporated milk

+ 1 tbsp. of unsalted butter ( melted)

+ 1 large egg

+ Cheese for toppings ( I used Eden Cheese)


Instructions:

1. In a mixing bowl, mix together the flour and baking powder. Sift to remove lumps and set it aside.

2. In another mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, evaporated milk, water, and vegetable oil or melted butter. Mix until combined. Then add it to the flour mixture. Mix thoroughly until it's nice and smooth. Do not overmix. Then let it rest for at least 10–15 minutes before pouring into the puto molds.

3. After resting for 10–15 minutes, the puto mixture should only be poured into the molds 3/4 full, and then add the cheese on top.

4. Steam for 10–12 minutes. I used medium-sized molders. If you are using a different mold size, adjust the steaming time.

5. After 10–12 minutes, remove the puto from the heat. Let it cool a little before removing it from the molds.


Note: To make a successful puto cheese, make sure to rest the batter for at least 10–15 minutes before you steam it. You may also strain the batter at least 2-3 times to make sure there are no lumps. If you steam the puto cheese without straining or resting the batter before steaming, the puto cheese will not turn out well.
